For students, the engineering world could appear to be in a state of flux. Whilst engineering is a key global industry, the usual routes into internships and employment appear to be closed, because most of the usual job fairs have be cancelled.
Over the years we have built up a strong relationship with Loughborough University and have offered many of their engineering students both internships and paid work with us. Where we’d usually attend their Placement Fair, this year we had to attend an amalgamated event with other STEM subjects over a Teams virtual event. Where it was a little unusual, it gave us a chance to showcase what we can offer students.
We were happy to see there was a lot of interest in what we could offer at Rotaflow, because as a small engineering company the hands on nature of what we provide is a unique opportunity for students to experience both the design and manufacture of our products.
Working at Rotaflow means you’re a part of a team
With a wide customer base across a number of industries, our students will learn how to problem solve, apply their expertise and understand how their work will impact manufacturing, health and safety and transportation. They’ll help to build components that will have to withstand extremes of temperature and pressure. This is the kind of experience placement students simply don’t get in large organisations, where they’re one of a number. At Rotaflow, they’re one of a team.
We’ve built up excellent relationships with past students and have been lucky enough to be able to offer them work after their placement has been completed.
We’d like to think we send our students back as better, more accomplished engineers with a unique insight into both design and manufacture. They’ll get to see finished products they’ve designed, they’ll learn how their decisions and thinking can improve services and functionality of processes.
Finally (and importantly), we’re nestled away in the Peak District. If you’re an outdoorsy type, this is your heaven! Walking, cycling, climbing, fishing and a whole host of other activities are a stones throw away. If you’re more of a city type, worry not – within a few minutes walk you can be at the train station and on your way to Manchester, which is a mere 30 minutes on the train away!
The future is bright for engineering
Despite the global shutdown, engineering remains as important as ever and students need not worry – the world is crying out for your knowledge and skills, so companies like Rotaflow will always be interested in hearing from you.
